What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a system of healing based on the wisdom that the body will heal itself if obstacles are removed and normal functioning is gently supported.

The Naturopathic Doctor-patient relationship is a partnership.  Even two people with the same diagnosis will not experience their illness in the same way, and they should not be treated exactly the same.  The process of healing is as individual as the experience of not being well.  Naturopathic medicine lets the road back to wellness be your own path.

The process of restoring health begins with a conversation.  The first visit is 60 minutes long... three times longer than you would spend at most doctor visits.  This time is spent getting to know you as a person, not merely your illness or symptoms.  Follow up visits are 30 minutes long, allowing time to make sure progress is being made and new issues are thoroughly addressed.
Treatments Used
Diet and lifestyle are always the first things considered.  Finding daily habits that support and promote wellness is the first goal and the most sustainable way to preserve your well-being over the long term.  In addition, the following may be helpful and are chosen based on their safety and evidence-based efficacy:
  • Nutritional supplements- Use of medical grade, combination or individual nutrients can revive body systems that are not working optimally.

  • Herbal medicine- Single herbs or combinations of herbs that are designed especially for you allows the complex elements of the plant world to support the complex return to health.

  • Homeopathy- Gentle medicine that corrects the root imbalances in the body and mind, based on your unique pattern of symptoms.

  • NAET- An allergy elimination technique that combines several systems of medicine to gently correct the body's reaction to allergens.  Read more at www.naet.com.

  • Functional Medicine- Lab testing that identifies imbalances in a person's biochemistry.  While our bodies operate under certain general principles, each person reacts differently to their internal and external environment.  Identifying challenges and correcting them can be a true turning point in a person's road to health.

  • Hydrotherapy- From swimming in natural springs to spa treatments, Naturopathic medicine has deep roots in hydro (water) therapies.  Warm and cold applications are used to restore and reinvigorate poorly functioning organs or to manage pain.
